Somalia has called on its neighboring countries to strengthen relations amongst themselves in order to make progress in safeguarding women rights noting achieving gender equality required concerted effort.
Speaking during the 9th Ministerial Conference, the country’s Family Affairs and Human Rights Minister Khadija Mohammed noted stronger collaborations among states would help create solutions that better the lives of women.
“Cooperation and experience sharing is the only way to help countries come up with need-based solutions for the benefit of women,” she told delegates in the conference.
She added that Somalia remains committed to working with countries in the region and international partners to promote women’s rights and strengthen the protection of human dignity noting that the ongoing reforms were intended to strengthen institutions to better safeguard women rights.
“The Federal Government fo Somalia is committed to promoting and protecting the rights of women and the most vulnerable populations within our country,” she said.
Somalia recently established a National Independent Human Rights Commision that is aimed at strengthening human rights framework and promote accountability and protect fundamental rights.
The conference brought together ministers and government representatives from different countries to exchange experiences on legal reforms, institutional development and policies that support women’s empowerment.
Somalia said it will continue deepening partnerships with regional and international stakeholders, maintaining that collective action remains essential to advancing gender equality and ensuring reforms deliver meaningful results for women, families and communities.
